Smart further expands selection of Android devices
Leading wireless services provider Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) once again cements its position as the country’s premiere proponent of the Google Android mobile operating system after being the first to offer and accept pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy S3.
Hailed by both pundits and enthusiasts around the world as the greatest Android phone ever built, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is a perfect match to Smart’s stellar mobile service. It is one of the few smartphones in the market which features full 4G connectivity of up to 21Mbps via High Speed Packet Access Plus (HSPA+) technology.
According to Smart Wireless Consumer Division Head Noel Lorenzana, there is no other network in the Philippines which will allow the Samsung Galaxy S3 to live up to its fullest potential.
“Only Smart can provide the best connection to the best smartphones in the world,” said Lorenzana. “And only with the best connection can subscribers begin to truly live more,” he added.
Smart is no stranger in pioneering Android technology in the Philippines. In 2008, it introduced the first Android smartphone in the Philippines, the HTC Magic. Soon thereafter, Smart also began offering entry-level models such as the Huawei Ideos U8150, the first Android phone to retail below P10,000 and super premium handsets such as the HTC Sensation and the Samsung Galaxy Note.
In 2011, Smart introduced the Android-powered Netphone 701 and Samsung Galaxy Y Netphone edition which feature SmartNet, a suite of applications which enables Smart subscribers to chat and to connect to Facebook and Twitter feeds for free. With a combined 100,000 units sold, the Netphones are Smart’s best-selling devices to date.
To follow up on its success, Smart made SmartNet available for free on Google Play, Android’s online store which is home to over 500,000 mobile applications a.k.a “apps”. As of May 2012, over 10,000 SmartNet users have downloaded the application into their Android devices.
Smart is also the first telco to offer the affordable 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab—the first tablet device in the world built to rival the Apple iPad.
More recently, Smart’s Android tablet invasion has moved up to the mobile broadband space as it introduced the FlexiSurf broadband plans.
For a mere P18 a day, subscribers can get to take home the capable Cherry Mobile Superion Tablet with a FlexiSurf Plan 299.
More demanding users, meanwhile, can opt for the Samsung Galaxy Tab P6200 tablet which boasts of a 1.2GHz dual core processor and dual front and rear cameras or the Asus eeePad Slider, a 10-inch tablet-netbook hybrid which comes with a physical keyboard that slides out at a flick of a finger and runs on an NVIDIA Tegra 2 Processor for an additional P1,199/month and P1,410/month, respectively.
“We have always had the largest and the latest army of Androids in the Philippines, and things will be no different in the future,” said Lorenzana. “This is all part of our effort to bring the power of the Internet into the hands of every Filipino,” he ended.
