ASUS ROG unveils the Maximus V Extreme in the Philippines
Among all Intel Z77-based motherboards, the ASUS ROG Maximus V Extreme takes overclocking and competitive benchmarking the furthest, supporting the full range of 2nd and 3rd generation Intel Core processors. To empower overclockers, it ships with the exclusive ROG OC Key attachment, which includes detailed OSD TweakIt and OSD Monitor for deep system parameter modification. More details after the jump.
To accommodate truly experimental modding, the new board includes Subzero Sense technology, which can quickly detect even deep-freeze cooling of critical components. VGA Hotwire headers have been added for easier but precise and complete DIY voltage regulation, and native 10Gbps Intel Thunderbolt support combines display and high speed data transfer capabilities into one streamlined arrangement for faster data transfers and better visuals. To ensure absolute graphics power, the Maximus V Extreme has five PCI Express 3.0 slots, two of which are native-linked to the CPU for faster and latency-free graphics performance. NVIDIA 4-way SLI and AMD CrossFireX are improved with LucidLogix Virtu MVP multi-GPU optimization.
Maximus once more hosts all the finest overclocking features
The exclusive OC Key attachment comes in the retail box, and includes several powerful overclocking functions that are perfect for competitive benchmarking. OSD TweakIt and OSD Monitor work on the hardware level to enable real time adjustments and provide detailed system info, with no CPU resource penalty or software install needed. For aggressive cooling systems, Subzero Sense offers accessible detection that can measure temperatures as low as -200°C, providing users with complete insight into the efficiency of their thermal configuration. With K-type cables and a dedicated sensor port, Subzero Sense saves overclockers on the cost of buying a separate thermometer. For hands-on voltage modification, ROG includes VGA Hotwire, which allows for quick DIY soldering of voltage points on the board and select ASUS graphics cards. This creates better board/GPU synergy, and improves overall tuning performance, as everything overclockers need to push their system to the limit can be easily accessed and adjusted via convenient OC Key, BIOS, and TurboV interfaces.
Boosted connectivity capabilities
An onboard 10Gbps Intel Thunderbolt chip enables bi-directional dual-channel data transfer and high-definition graphics via a single cable, creating a true next-generation connectivity standard. With its high data rates, users can move a full HD movie in just ten seconds, plus up to six compatible devices can be easily daisy-chained to a single Thunderbolt port. The Maximus V Extreme ships with an mPCIe Combo card, which adds instant dual-band Wi-Fi a/b/g/n and Bluetooth V4.0 support. It also adds mSATA, working together with Intel Smart Response Technology to accelerate data access through solid state hybrid storage.
Better graphics power and flexibility
Thanks to intelligent board layout and generous spacing, four out of the five PCI Express 3.0 slots can take even the most powerful graphics cards currently available in 4-way NVIDIA SLI or AMD CrossFireX. With this much graphics processing power, the Maximus V Extreme proves equally adept at gaming and GPU-based benchmarking as it is in CPU-heavy and overall system testing. To improve compatibility and ensure greater flexibility when choosing graphics hardware, LucidLogix Virtu MVP has been included to optimize multi-GPU configurations with higher framerates and more consistent vertical sync across different games and applications.
