PBA on AKTV now available for Android devices!

Wireless leader Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) together with Philippine Basketball Association’s (PBA) official television partner, SPORTS5, is bringing the action of the country’s premiere sports league closer to millions of Filipinos with the PBA on AKTV mobile app.

Now available via free download on the Google Play online store and soon on the Apple app store, the locally-developed “TV companion” gives Pinoy basketball fans around the world fans access to live scores, statistics, game alerts, and live status updates from their favorite PBA personalities at the touch of a button.

“PBA on AKTV takes kampihan to a whole new level,” said Smart Head for Internet Products Mitch Padua. “With 24/7 access to league information and the ability share your thoughts via social networking, this ‘second screen’ app redefines Philippine basketball for the mobile generation.”

A Talk ‘N Text fan from Dubai, for example, keeps track of up-to-the-second scores as his team squares off with the Meralco Bolts at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Meanwhile, another fan from California eagerly awaits Jimmy Alapag’s 6,000th career point. Immediately after the Texters win, he shares the Mighty Mouse’s game stats on Facebook.

The following day, @Alaska_Aces fan from Mandaluyong boldly tweets that Jayvee Casio will make sure to end the Texter’s 5-game winning streak come Sunday—a game which he would follow via his Smart Netphone during his upcoming business trip to Japan.

“This is just one of the many scenarios which the PBA on AKTV mobile app makes possible,” said Padua. “Now, PBA fans can get to know more about the game. It is the perfect app for a basketball-loving nation such as the Philippines.”

PBA on AKTV is powered by Sportscaster, a web-based platform created by Smart which enables the app’s administrators to update the content in real time.

“Sportscaster is just one of the many ways Smart supports Philippine sports,” said Padua. “We are helping enrich the overall experience for sports fans around the world.”

PBA on AKTV is best used on a Smart-powered Android phone with a Smart UnliSurf or Always On data package. Enrolling in a data package enables Smart subscribers to keep connected without worrying about unexpected data charges.

To avail, simply text “ON 20” send to 2200 for 45MB of mobile data valid for 1 day or “UNLI 50” send to 211 for unlimited surfing valid for 1 day.
