Smart pilots mobile credit card reader in Cebu

Wireless services leader Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) and subsidiary Smart Hub, Inc. (SHI) recently piloted their innovative mobile credit card reader during Smart’s Switch Madness event in SM City Cebu. The device – a card reader attached to a smartphone – will allow merchants and professionals to accept MasterCard payments even when they are on the go. More details after the jump.

The mobile credit card reader combines the functions of traditional point-of-sale (POS) credit card terminals with the mobility of smartphones. The pioneering solution will enable sellers and professionals like doctors and lawyers to accept credit card payments outside their offices – in bazaars, trade shows, and even in their clients’ homes. At the end of the day, they can check all the completed transactions using their smartphone.

The mobile POS solution is an offshoot of SHI’s recent acquisition of a MasterCard license which allows it to accept and process MasterCard transactions. SHI is the first non-bank institution in the Philippines to receive such an authorization from the global financial services giant.
