Smart to provide Libreng Tawag to families affected by Superstorm Sandy
Overseas Filipinos affected by Superstorm Sandy in the eastern side of the United States have another lifeline to their families back here in the Philippines, courtesy of wireless leader Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart). From now until November 2, 2012, Smart is offering free international calls to select US areas, to provide critical support to individuals with loved ones affected by the severe weather.
From 10AM to 9PM, every day until November 2, people can go to the ‘Libreng Tawag’ stations at the Smart Stores in the following malls: SM Megamall, SM Davao, SM Cebu, SM Manila, and SM North EDSA, where they can place free, 3-minute international calls to the following States (area code): Virginia (276), West Virginia (304), Maryland (240), Delaware (302), Pennsylvania (215), New Jersey (201), New York (212), Connecticut (475), and Rhode Island (401).
Smart has been providing free calls in times of disasters and emergencies through its ‘Libreng Tawag’, put in place by the telco to immediately dispatch communication assistance where necessary. In dire situations involving overseas Filipinos, Smart’s Libreng Tawag enables Philippine-based families to reach and communicate with their overseas loved-ones in conflict or disaster-stricken areas.
Smart subscribers can also avail of affordable international call and text messaging services, to get in touch with their loved ones in case of difficult situations (http://www1.smart.com.ph/International/services/smart-idd). Overseas Filipinos can also use the same services to reach their families here.
With close to two million active Smart SIMs worldwide -- the largest community of roaming users – overseas Filipinos benefit from Smart’s partnerships with over 400 network operators in close to 200 countries. This worldwide network coverage gives Filipinos, wherever they are in the world, a direct line to their families in the Philippines.
