Tesda’s Bilib I.T. program provides IT training to 300 inmates from various jails in Metro Manila!

The Technical Education & Skills Development Authority (Tesda) recently launched its Bilib I.T. program, a computer training course for inmates. Tesda Director General Joel Villanueva, in a news release, said that the agency is giving the inmates the chance to take technical vocational education and training which they can use to start a new life once they leave jail.

Inmates at the Taguig City Jail and Camp Bagong Diwa will initially benefit from the program but in the coming months, Villanueva said they hope to train more inmates in selected jails in Metro Manila.

Tesda has partnered with Informatics and with the office of Senator Allan Peter Cayetano for the implementation of the projects.

Cayetano’s office and Tesda provided funds for the training, assessment, and certification of the graduates.

Informatics, one of the country's leading information technology schools, will provide the training to the inmates.

Among the courses to be offered under the Bilib I.T. program are IT Essentials, Computer Hardware Servicing, Adobe Photoshop, Web Design, and English Proficiency.

On-site training sessions would be held at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City, Metro Manila District Jail, Quezon City Jail Annex, Taguig City Jail (for male and female), and the Manila City Jail Annex.

Trainings would be held from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at designated dates, to be determined by the body to be formed to monitor the program. (Tesda/RJB/SDL-PIA NCR)
