Kaspersky Lab and Qualcomm partner to protect smartphones, tablets

Leading developer of secure content and threat management solutions, Kaspersky Lab has signed an agreement with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. (QTI), a leading developer and innovator of advanced wireless technologies, products and services.

Kaspersky Lab has agreed to offer special terms relating to the preloading of Kaspersky Mobile Security and Kaspersky Tablet Security solutions onto Android devices powered by QTI’s Qualcomm Snapdragon processors.

Kaspersky Lab will be offering these special terms to a wide range of customers, who are manufacturing or having manufactured on their behalf Snapdragon-enabled mobile devices or tablets running on Android.

To date, Qualcomm Snapdragon processors can be found in more than 770 commercially available or announced products, with another 550 product designs in the pipeline, from 70+ device customers.

Kaspersky Lab already has more than 80 global partner and technology agreements with companies including Microsoft, IBM, Cisco, Juniper Networks, Alcatel Lucent, Blue Coat, Check Point, D-Link, GFI, Gwava, Netgear, SonicWALL RSA, ZyXel, Alt-N, Parallels, Lenovo and Facebook.

Optimized for Android smartphones, Kaspersky Mobile Security delivers Kaspersky Lab’s latest real-time protection technologies that keep users safe on the Internet.

It has on-demand scan and protection against malicious software, protects phone and data from theft and loss, filters out unwanted calls and SMS texts, blocks links to dangerous and phishing websites, checks for malware links within text messages, and hides private calls, texts, contacts and logs.

Kaspersky Tablet Security, on the other hand, provides the same amount of protection as KMS but also adds anti-theft features. It locks the tablet devices so no one can access the tablet owner’s private information.

It also displays a “custom’ message” that shows to the person who finds the tablet to return it to the original owner, locates your tablet’s approximate whereabouts using GPS, GSM or WiFi, and does remote data wipe from the lost or stolen tablet and resets the device to its factory settings.

It has also has a unique feature that secretly photographs unauthorized users and sends the images to the original device owner to help identify a possible thief.

“Smartphone and tablet devices in the Philippines are becoming part of the Filipino lifestyle and for many, it is still an investment to purchase a device. Protecting the device and its content are things that Filipinos are starting to understand,” according Jimmy Fong, Kaspersky Lab Southeast Asia Channel Sales Director.

“This partnership with Qualcomm is established to ensure maximum protection to users of devices running on the Snapdragon, Qualcomm’s set of powerful processors for today’s most demanding mobile applications,” he added.

Fong also acknowledges the growing smartphone use in the Philippines, citing the latest report of research firm Gfk, which shows that smartphone take up in the country is set at 146%.

“That is a huge uptake and it means users are becoming aware of the power of a mobile device. It also drives users to become more protective of their device against cyberthreats,” Fong said.
