Smart’s PinoyHoops among the most downloaded apps in Google Play
PinoyHoops, a mobile app created by wireless services leader Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) and its subsidiary Voyager Innovations, Inc. (Voyager), has become one of the most downloaded free sports mobile apps in Google Play. More details after the jump.
Following its launch in early August in time for the 27th International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Asia Championship, the Android version of PinoyHoops has already racked up more than 150,000 downloads and has received positive reviews from actual users as well as writers and editors from top technology blogs.
“The success of PinoyHoops came on the heels of the memorable run of our very own Smart Gilas Pilipinas in the recently concluded FIBA Asia tournament,” said Mitch Padua, head for Digital Content at Voyager. “With the app, those who were not able to catch the games live were able to virtually join the fun at the MOA Arena, while those watching the actual games or in the comfort of their own living room experienced the ‘second screen’.”
PinoyHoops gives users updates on how their favorite teams and players are faring at the tournaments. The mobile app provides real-time updates and scores, game alerts and highlights, player stats, standings, and schedules, among a host of other features.
Powered by Sports5, the sports arm of TV5, PinoyHoops provides users the latest basketball-related news straight to their mobile devices. To ensure that their friends and families are also on the loop, users can also share news stories with their friends on social networking sites. The app, which is also available for download from the Apple App Store, also covers local basketball leagues such as the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
“PinoyHoops is a must-have utility for every Filipino basketball fan, whether you’re a professional who is always on the go, or a student finding time between studies and recreation to follow their favorite basketball team using their mobile devices,” said Padua. “This app gives them their daily dose of basketball action the way they want to consume it.”
