With the theme, “It’s more fun with Safety!” the symposium focuses on how the organization can enjoin the public on how to further improve the safety and health of workers by ensuring a workplace that’s accident and illness free, improving workers’ quality of life and, enabling them to integrate fun with safety. The symposium is also expected to attract corporate executives, managers, safety, health and environmental professionals, safety and accident advocates, leaders of safety organizations and WSO members from around the world to share and exchange new insights and learnings and to network with colleagues in the safety industry.
“This event is momentous because we are also celebrating the organization’s 40th anniversary founding,” said Alfredo A. Dela Rosa, Jr, Director, WSO International Office for Philippines. “The organization was founded in the Philippines 4 decades ago so it is fitting that the symposium is to be held here.”
The Honorable Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz of the Department of Labor and Employment was invited to give a keynote address. The event will also be graced by the Honorable Sonny Angara of the Senate of the Republic of the Philippines who will address the delegates and guests.
The event will run from October 25 beginning with the arrival of delegates and expert resource speakers from around the world. The “WSO Global Safety Roundtable” forum co-organized by the Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) will follow on October 27 and will showcase the Philippines, Australia, USA, Singapore, Malaysia and other participating countries experiences and best practices on occupational safety and health.
“The WSO 28th Annual International Environmental and Occupational Safety and Health Professional Development Symposium is promoted and aligned with the VisitPH2015 program by the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB), Department of Tourism. “We are looking forward to our distinguished international guests not only having fun talking about safety and health but actually having fun in the Philippines through our country’s warm hospitality, vibrant culture, and wonderful scenery.” Dela Rosa added.
The World Safety Organization (WSO) was founded in 1975 as a result of an international conference, organized by the Safety Organization of the Philippine, Inc. (SOPI), in Manila, Philippines. The event was attended by over 1,000 delegates from over 20 countries represented at that conference (Thailand, USA, Japan, Australia, China, Iran, Singapore, Spain, Nigeria, Sweden, Iraq, Turkey, Yugoslavia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Hong Kong, and others). On that occasion the conference delegates agreed on the need for an international exchange of information, programs, new research methods, and data, in the areas of safety, environment, and all associated fields.
