Hyundai’s All-new Elantra out to Be Compact Sedan Gold in the Philippines
Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI), the exclusive distributor of Hyundai cars in the Philippines, previews the newest model of the largest automotive brand from South Korea, the all-new Elantra. Named ‘Avante’ in South Korea, the sixth generation Elantra looks to build on its established heritage in the Philippine compact sedan segment. The new model introduces evolution from the previous generation Elantra, underlining its value through a dynamic and sleek appearance and distinguished performance features.
Hyundai’s evolving design philosophy, Fluidic Sculpture 2.0, speaks of high volumes in the all-new Elantra, highlighted by the interior and exterior features that define its class and flaunt the Hyundai brand. The large hexagonal grille gives the compact sedan an active stance identical with other Hyundai vehicles, providing the Modern Premium look across the Hyundai lineup of cars. The definitive grille is paired with slim and sporty Projection Headlamps for an energetic look. This exterior design achieves a dynamic precision that completes the contemporary and comfortable car experience.
The new wheel arch design expresses the car’s dynamic road presence, while also helping set the new model apart from all other vehicles on the road. The roof also flows back to the trunk almost seamlessly, with the sides left simple and unembellished, plus with understated lines on the shoulders to create an elegant and smooth look. Distinctive, shining tail lights, equipped with Rear Combination Lamps, are arranged in an attractive horizontal line, while the rear bumper completes the balanced design of the All-new Elantra.
In the interior, refined active character lines are placed ergonomically to enable intuitive operation, which mostly inherited from Hyundai’s luxury range like the Sonata and the Genesis. Dashboard buttons are grouped according to functions, the cockpit display is angled 6.9 degrees toward the driver, and soft-touch and high-quality materials are used across the surfaces for convenience. The passengers get to enjoy the premium value as well, as rear air conditioner vents are added in the newest model.
The All-new Elantra preserves the essence of the previous car’s well-received aesthetics, while giving greater emphasis to simple and harmonious Modern Premium design.
To achieve comfort and performance alongside the design, the All-new Elantra is 20 millimeters longer and 5 millimeters wider than the previous-generation Elantra. The 16” and 17” alloy wheel definitions make the Elantra a smooth and brilliant drive on the road.
The new compact sedan from Hyundai will come in three (3) variants in the Philippines. The top-of-the-line L variant uses a Nu 2.0 MPi engine, which delivers maximum drivability in all driving conditions to meet the needs of customers that prefer high performance. With maximum horsepower of 152ps and torque of 19.6 kg-m, the All-new Elantra is comparable to that of the midsize sedan segment. The entry-level E variant houses a Gamma 1.6 MPi engine with 6-speed manual transmission. The mid-tier S variant carries the same Gamma 1.6 MPi engine and is equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Evolution through Innovation
The All-new Elantra defines the brand new day with class-leading convenience features that take it a notch higher from the previous model. Advanced ergonomically designed seats give both driver and passenger better comfort and flexibility during travel. The Smart Key allows for fuss-free opening and closing of car doors, while Electric Folding Mirrors with Repeaters are welcome features that make the drive easier and safer by immediately alerting those behind you of your driving intentions.
More safety features also abound in the sixth generation model. Dual airbags protect both the driver and the front passenger from collisions. But beyond that, the body structure has also been boosted in terms of durability and rigidity, incorporated with an impressive 53% Advanced High-Strength Steel (AHSS), 32% higher compared to the previous model, enabling the Elantra to more effectively protect passengers, and achieve top-class safety ratings in internal tests.
The Rear View Camera makes parking a breeze by giving the driver a clear sight of the rear, complete with Dynamic Guidelines to direct the driver to the fast and easy way to park, without bumping into obstacles.
Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) were also fine-tuned by Hyundai’s engineers to truly achieve a world-class compact sedan. Re-engineered windscreen wipers are carefully positions to dramatically reduce road and wind noise in the cabin, while the thickened door glass significantly reduces noise penetration.
After the previous-generation Elantra won Car of the Year in 2012, HARI seeks to solidify its number 3 ranking among automotive companies in the Philippines—and to capture the compact sedan segment—with the newest generation model. The All-new Elantra is expected to be available in HARI dealerships nationwide in the first quarter of 2016.
