OPPO A54 (6GB+128GB) Unboxing and First Impression
Last April, OPPO Philippines released the latest member of its A Series, the OPPO A54 in 4GB RAM variant that promises value-for-money capabilities and features. A month later, OPPO released a model with 6GB RAM at a slightly higher price.
The OPPO A54 is packed with features perfect for users who are always on the go and always on their smartphones. It runs on a MediaTek Helio P35 octa-core processor that has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. It also comes with a 6.51-inch HD+ IPS screen, triple-rear cameras and 5,000mAh battery capacity with 18W Fast Charge.
I was able to get my hands on one and I am very excited to share with you my unboxing experience and my initial impressions. So, let us start with the unboxing.
First stop
The front portion of the packaging indicates the OPPO A54 branding with the phone itself, the RAM and storage variant at the upper left; while the brand details—model number, IMEI number, serial number, device variant, color and the summary of the four important features of the OPPO A54, are imprinted on the back portion of the box.
You can also find the OPPO A54 print on the left, while on right indicates the lone OPPO logo. There is nothing to look at from the top and bottom portions.
Inside the Box and Accessories
After sliding the cover and opening the lid of the plain white box with a lone OPPO logo on top, the pack contains the SIM card ejector tool, protective silicone case, quick guide and safety guide with warranty card.
Underneath the pack is the OPPO A54 smartphone wrapped in white matte plastic. I will set aside the device for now and see what else we get in the box.
Beneath is the 18W Fast Charger and USB type-C to USB-A charging cable. OPPO A54 does not come with headphones – you still have to provide your own. Below is a close look at the 18W Fast Charger information.
After unboxing, let us now take a look at the physical overview and my first impressions of the device.
Design and Walk Around
The OPPO A54 still uses polycarbonate plastic for the frame and back panel. The curved back panel has a glossy finish design and is very prone to fingerprint smudges, so it is best to use the free protective silicone case right away.
As for the color, OPPO A54 is available in two colors: Crystal Black and Starry Blue. My unit comes in Crystal Black color.
On the front, the OPPO A54 is equipped with a large 6.51-inch HD+ (1600 x 720) IPS LCD screen. There is a punch-hole camera located at the upper left and the earpiece is quite thin and discretely etched within the screen enclosure. The single punch-hole display of OPPO A54 is more advanced than the traditional waterdrop screen of past OPPO A Series smartphones, but like most smartphones in this segment, the side bezels are relatively slim but with a pretty thick chin. Also, there is no glass type protection mentioned, but it has a pre-installed screen protector.
At the back, the triple-camera set-up along with the single LED flash are no longer arranged vertically but instead in a matrix layout that matches the 3D phone body. The bottom of the camera bump is pasted with a film and the color is consistent with the overall tone of the back panel. The fourth dot in the lower right is an AI logo and looks like a camera at first glance.
Found on the left side is the card tray with a 3-card slot for two Nano-SIM cards and a dedicated slot for a microSD card capable of up to 256GB of expandable storage, handy for users who want to further improve storage capacity. Also on the left and below the card tray is your standard volume rocker.
On the right side, the OPPO A54 features a side-mounted fingerprint sensor that is embedded in the power button. Unlike screens that hide the sensor under the screen, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor makes it quick and easy to unlock the phone.
There is nothing on the top part of the frame, while at the bottom you can find the USB Type-C charging port, a single downward-firing speaker, primary microphone and a 3.5mm audio jack.
OPPO A54’s body measures only 8.4mm thin and 192g in weight, despite fitting a large 5,000mAh battery it is still easier to hold and fits well in hand and pockets. Considering the thickness and weight of the whole device, the body is solidly built and sturdy.
Internals
To ensure a smooth performance, the OPPO A54 comes with a MediaTek Helio P35 (MT6765) octa-core processor, PowerVR GE8320 GPU, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. OPPO A54 is also equipped with an 18W Fast Charge and a 5000mAh battery that provides longer battery life in daily use. We will know more about this device once I’m done with my review.
For the software, the OPPO A54 is powered by ColorOS 7.2 based on Android 10.
Cameras
As for the camera, the OPPO A54 boasts a triple-camera set-up—comprised of a 13MP primary camera, a 2MP macro camera and a 2MP bokeh camera. The front camera houses the lone 16MP in-display selfie camera.
