realme 8 5G Unboxing and First Impression
Coming off a successful launch of the realme 8 Pro and the realme 8, realme is once again prepared to shake up the industry with yet another revolutionary offering - the realme 8 5G.
I was able to get my hands on a unit and I am very excited to share with you my unboxing experience as well as my initial impression of the device. So, let's start with the unboxing.
Unboxing the realme 8 5G
As expected, the packaging comes in realme's signature yellow-colored box and doesn’t have much difference from the previously released realme products.
The front portion indicates the realme 8 5G branding; while the brand details—model number, IMEI number, serial number, device variant, color and the summary of the four important features of the realme 8 5G, are imprinted on the back portion of the box.
You can also find the realme 8 5G print on both the left and right sides. While on top indicates the lone realme logo, there is nothing to look at from the bottom portion.
Inside the Box and Accessories
After opening the lid of the box, you are greeted with these pleasing lines -- Hey, welcome to realme Family.
The pack contained a SIM card ejector tool, protective silicone case, quick guide and important information guide with warranty card.
Underneath the pack is the realme 8 5G smartphone wrapped in white matte plastic. I will set aside the device for now and see what else we get in the box.
Beneath is the 18W Quick Charger and USB type-C to USB-A charging cable. realme 8 5G doesn’t come with headphones – you still have to provide your own. Below is a close look at the 18W Quick Charger information.
After unboxing, let us now take a look at the physical overview and my first impression of the device.
Design and Walk Around
The realme 8 5G still uses polycarbonate plastic for the frame and back panel. The curved back panel has a glossy finish design called Dynamic Speed Light and shows a subtle radiant light effect when light is reflected. However, it is very prone to fingerprint smudges, so it’s best to use the free protective silicone case right away.
As for the color, realme 8 5G is available in two colors: Supersonic Blue and Supersonic Black. My unit comes in Supersonic Black color.
On the front, the realme 8 5G is equipped with a large 6.5-inch FHD+ (2400x1080) IPS LCD screen with an ultra-smooth 90Hz refresh rate. There’s a punch-hole camera located at the upper left and the earpiece is quite thin and discretely etched within the screen enclosure. Like most smartphones in this segment, the side bezels are relatively slim but with a pretty thick chin. Also, there’s no glass type protection mentioned, but it has a pre-installed screen protector.
At the back is a rectangular-shaped camera module that houses the triple-camera set-up along with the single LED flash. The fourth dot in the upper right is an AI logo and looks like a camera at first glance.
Found on the left side is the card tray with a 3-card slot that supports the use of 2 Nano-SIM cards with 5G Dual SIM Dual Standby and a dedicated slot for a microSD card capable of up to 1TB of expandable storage. Also on the left and below the card tray is your standard volume rocker.
The power button, which is situated on the right side, also doubles as a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
There is nothing on the top part of the frame, while at the bottom you can find the USB Type-C charging port, a single downward-firing speaker, primary microphone and a 3.5mm audio jack.
Aside from its improved design, the realme 8 5G is super slim at 8.5mm in thickness and lightweight at 185g in weight which makes it easier to hold and fits well in hand and pockets.
Internals
Under the hood, the realme 8 5G boasts a MediaTek Dimensity 700 5G processor with an Arm Mali-G57 MC2 GPU, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. realme 8 5G is also equipped with an 18W Quick Charge and a 5000mAh battery provides longer battery life in daily use.
For the software, the realme 8 5G is powered by the latest Android 11 and realme UI 2.0 that provides users a more customizable and seamless OS.
5G Connectivity
The MediaTek Dimensity 700 5G processor supports 5G Dual SIM Dual Standby, letting the phone support 5G SIM cards online by 5G network.
In addition, realme 8 5G supports Smart 5G Power Saving. In Smart 5G Power Saving the phone intelligently switches between 4G and 5G depending on usage scenario to save battery.
Cameras
As for the camera, the realme 8 5G boasts a triple-camera set-up—comprised of a 48MP primary camera, a 2MP macro lens and a 2MP B&W portrait lens. The front camera houses the lone 16MP in-display selfie camera.
