Submissions for Zayed Sustainability Prize 2022 Awards Received


The Zayed Sustainability Prize is the UAE’s pioneering global award in sustainability and a tribute to the legacy of the UAE’s founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Over 352 million people have been directly and indirectly impacted by the solutions and high school projects of the Zayed Sustainability Prize winners.

Established by the UAE leadership, in 2008, this annual award recognizes and rewards the achievements of those who are driving impactful, innovative and inspiring sustainability solutions, across five categories: Health, Food, Energy, Water and Global High Schools.

SUBMISSIONS TRENDS

COVID-19 Recovery & Response

  • A diverse range of innovative technologies and community-based solutions were presented across all categories that combat the impact of COVID-19 while mitigating its socio-economic and environmental effects
  • Solutions deploying remote healthcare through telehealth or mobile clinics were proposed to address communicable diseases and new-born and maternal health

Youth Engagement

  • The active and robust role that youth are taking to accelerate climate action and sustainable development was evident in the high number of submissions in the Global High Schools category
  • Several entries proposed sustainable agriculture projects such as school gardens for self-sufficiency and in support of local communities

Climate Action

The increased adoption of the global energy transition was evident in the vast amount of energy access, waste to energy and energy efficiency solutions

  • Several solutions utilized advances in the sustainable agriculture value chain to address the need to accelerate food security
  • Access to clean water remains a major global issue as evidenced by solutions in extraction, filtration, and wastewater purification technologies
  • High participation from island nations at the forefront of climate change highlights the commitment to environmental sustainability
  • An increased focus on harnessing next generation technology like Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and the Internet of Things to address sustainable issues and drive the digital transformation
