realme 12 5G Unboxing and First Impression
Following the successful launch of realme 12+ 5G and 12 Pro 5G last month, realme Philippines has announced the introduction of the newest addition to realme 12 Series 5G - the realme 12 5G, which is set to take place on April 25.
This latest model features a competitive camera and a stylish design, which is well-known for this series. It also incorporates elements of the luxury watch design that were introduced in the earlier realme 12 Series 5G models.
I was lucky enough to get my hands on one, and I'm excited to share my unboxing experience and initial impressions of the device. So, let's get started with the unboxing.
Unboxing the realme 12 5G
The packaging for the realme 12 5G comes in the brand's signature yellow-colored box, as expected. The front of the box displays the branding, while the back portion contains important details such as the model number, IMEI number, serial number, color, and four key features of the realme 12 5G.
Inside the Box and Accessories
When you open the box, you will find realme's newest slogan, "Make it real." In addition, there is a pack containing a SIM card ejector tool, a protective silicone case, a quick start guide, and important product information, including the Warranty Card.
Beneath the pack was the realme 12 5G smartphone, wrapped in white matte plastic. Below, I found the 45W SUPERVOOC charging adapter and a USB type-C to USB-A charging cable. Please note that the realme 12 5G smartphone does not come with headphones, so you will have to use your own.
Now that I have unboxed everything, I will take a closer look at the physical features of the device and share my first impression with you.
Design and Walk Around
The realme 12 5G features design elements that were introduced in earlier models of the realme 12 Series 5G, incorporating hints of luxury watch design.
The device's design comprises of three main elements: the Polished Sunburst Dial—which provides a classic sunburst effect and acts as the bed for the camera module; the Polished PVD Edges—which frame the device's slim and sleek body; and the diamond-patterned 3D Jubilee Bracelet—which subtly ties the whole look together.
The realme 12 5G smartphone is offered in two colors - Twilight Purple and Woodland Green. Mine comes in Woodland Green variant which has a deeper shade of green, reminiscent of nature and lush forests. The back of the phone has a glossy finish that appears to change when viewed from different angles, without being prone to fingerprint smudges.
In addition to its design, the device is also thin at 7.69mm and weighs only 188 grams despite a 5,000mAh battery capacity.
The realme 12 5G boasts a 6.72-inch FHD+ (2400 x 1080) LTPS LCD display on its front, featuring a 120Hz Refresh Rate and a 240Hz Touch Sampling Rate. The display has a centered hole-punch 8MP camera on the top and a thin and discreetly etched earpiece above it.
On the back, there's a large protruding camera module that houses the dual-camera setup along with a single LED flash. The two cameras are the 108MP main + 2MP black & white.
The right side features the standard volume rocker and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor that is embedded in the power button, while the top has the secondary noise-canceling microphone, a speaker grille, and a hybrid SIM tray which allows the option of using either 2 SIM cards, or 1 SIM card + 1 microSD card
At the bottom, you'll find the USB Type-C charging port, downward-firing speaker, primary microphone, and a 3.5mm audio jack.
Hardware
The realme 12 5G boasts a MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ processor. It is built on an advanced 6nm production process and consists of two Cortex-A76 cores, six Cortex-A55 cores, and a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU.
The phone comes with 8GB of RAM with Dynamic RAM Expansion (DRE) and will be available in one storage variant with 256GB storage. The phone runs on realme UI 5.0 based on Android 14 and is equipped with a 5,000mAh battery and 45W SUPERVOOC Charge technology.
For the camera, it has a dual-camera system with a 108MP primary camera and a Samsung HM6 sensor. The main 108MP camera is also paired with a 2MP black-and-white lens that acts as a depth sensor to help with portrait shots. On the front, it houses an 8MP in-display selfie camera.
Here are sample photos taken by realme 12 5G. My full evaluation of the phone's camera will be available soon.
